Day Two: Island Time

We awoke on day two ready for the Island. As DC locals, we are always looking in every new city for the perfect brunch. For some cities it is unattainable, for example brunch isn't that big on the West Coast, its just plain boring lunch. But considering we were "belongers" now, we found a general idea of where the best brunch place was for our needs. A) on the beach, and B) serving coffee and mimosas. Bay bistro was our final destination. That is when the fun began! We ordered lobster Benedict for a quite reasonable price. However Heidi eggs were not cooked all the way through. Now at any DC restaurant you would hear the waiter gasp, the record scratch and the chef would wisk to the table with a replacement. Well our situation went from bad to worse when Heidi had to wait 10 minutes to get the waitresses attention, Heidi asked if she could just heat the plate for a few seconds to make sure the egg was done, but after another 10 minutes the waitress came back with a whole new plate. Much to her dismay, the new eggs were also under cooked. So a theme began for the brunch - finally she gave up on it and we drank mimosas and plotted our afternoon.

The rest of the day was spent poolside trying to work on our January tans and catch up on reading the latest gossip. Candi had a magazine that had info on the Island - where the hot spots were, where to eat, what to do. It was a great go to guide for us to figure out the rest of the trip. It helped that the dark and stormy's flowed freely throughout the afternoon until it was time to go get ready and head down to Grace Bay Club.

To describe in a word what the Grace Bay Club is like, I will use serene. They had an incredible set up with cabanas, dark wood benches, fire pits and the motivation for happy hour, the Infinity bar. This bar was 90 feet long and jutted towards the Ocean with water and fire down the middle. It was quite a site! Also, the martinis were magnificent but SUPER pricey! So after a few, we switched to the local beer, Turks head. It was comparable to a miller lite, but you couldn't beat the price, two for 1! Also, they had coconut popcorn - this will become a summer time staple in DC I know! Now that we were starving for some dinner, we decided to take ourselves off the beach into a local restaurant, Lemon Cafe.

We weren't sure where Lemon Cafe was, so we decided to take a cab. On the Island cabs are a little expensive, but worth it in some situations. But we couldn't help but laugh when we turned a corner, rounded a cul-de-sac and ended in this charming little lot with ivy, low middle eastern style dining and gorgeous jewel toned pillows with white sheer drapes. I felt like I was in what I can only imagine would be Morocco or India. We made the decision to go with wine for dinner - we had plenty of cocktails already - so our fabulous waiter Chris brought it over for us and it was AMAZING! Poor Marti couldn't stop blowing her nose, and it was making us all laugh so hard because she did it so nonchalantly that it was more embarrassing for us that her! Of course that set off my snorting and we quickly became the entertainment for the night! The meal was so good - we opted for animals from the land since we already are overdoing it with the seafood. Lamb burgers!! So good. Next came the Hookah! It was so fun to just chat and we got a fruit minty flavor that was really good. We were unsure about the local rules about "grass" but Candi mustered up the nerve to at least ask, and Chris shot us down. He couldn't believe that the American girls were looking for some wacky tobacky. Hehe.
