Day Six: Goodbye Turks, Hello DC!

This morning was tough because it was time to say goodbye to the Island. Marti leaving us early, which made the sting of a vacation ending start early this morning. Heidi, Candice and I slowly got our things together, took one last trip out to see the sun then waited on a shuttle back to the airport. I was really in a down frame of mind, not because I was leaving a fabulous place, but because of the storm I was heading into back in DC. Work is bad and I head to Long Island soon for a program that I don't have any information for, Austin is stressed at work and we rarely see each other. Its been hard to feel connected to him on this vacation since we can't talk. It truly tests a relationships limits.

The up-side was that we downed a few glasses of the ever-elating Island rum punch. A fitting farewell from our vacation of pure, raw happiness! Candi was super sad, but we managed to do a bit of Island airport shopping (nothing but booze and jewelry) and I was a nervous nellie because I was smuggling my conch through customs. Heidi was almost tackled by security because she was on her phone when we were in customs, oopsie! But we finally made it through customs at JFK and had a few celebratory glasses of wine. I mean technically its still vacation, right? Once back in DC, it was hard to part with the girls, but we all had our men to take care of. That is the beauty of Mars and Venus, right?

Getting home and back to life with the Squid was somewhat challenging. I mean, how much chinese food and pizza can a man eat over a six day period? Luckily I was so exhausted, I didn't really care all that much that our house was dirty and my dog had shed his hair all over the house, couch and bed linens. It is a simple fix once I get my recovery time from vacation.

Turks and Caicos was such an amazing experience that the coconut girls documented well. I will miss the heat coming off the beach and the smell of ocean in the air, but the ocean can't snuggle me down at night and make me feel like even if everything is falling down around me, that one good squeeze will make it alright.
