It is hard to get into the groove of a warm weather vacation when it is January where you live. Of course, tanned skin is a lot more taught than pasty skin so before we hit the sun I needed a little trip to the gym. I always forget that I don't have cable in my apartment in DC, so I was fortunate enough to get to experience the joy (ahem) of watching a Real Housewives of New Jersey marathon while on my treadmill. I am actually speechless in regards to the show and now remember why I don't have cable.
After the gym the four of us rented bikes to take a trip around our neighborhood, Grace Bay, and see the sites. Biking is the same and driving on the Island so we were expected to bike backwards as well. Also, the sand and salt don't do much for the bikes, and we are screeching and squealing down the road like little ducks headed to the water. We were in search of cigars for friends, and other mementos to bring home from the Island. We stopped into a cute shop and found a hat for Candi, and experienced the local style. They really appreciate and love Beyonce - just sayin.
Then, we just popped into a place that we thought was a pet shop, but it was actually a rescue shelter for puppies. Oh my goodness, the poor puppies were so sweet and snuggly! We considered doing a program they have called "puppy's day at the beach" where you can take the puppies to the beach and they give you a beach bag, snacks and toys and you just play with them all day! We couldn't bring ourselves to do it though because I would try to adopt them. The concept is amazing, one day when I am in a place that can have more than one dog, I will totally be up for it!
Tearing ourselves away from the puppies was hard, but our appetites got the best of us. We biked over to Pizza Pizza and got some piping hot pies and beers enjoying the sunshine. We spotted something quite evil shortly after - Jai, which is a duty free Island shop. Candi and I had been eyeing the Yurman rings, so we both were trying on and made a pact that we would both buy one! It was the most liberating purchase ever! I was certain that I deserved a gift for myself for all my hard work on my fall programs :) It is so beautiful, its two toned and roped.
The rest of the day was quite a blur, we just lounged at the pool and had yet another amazing dinner at Mango Reef Restaurant on the beach. We walked over and just listened to the waves crash on the beach. It was a beautiful night. I wish that the Squid was here to enjoy with me!
Tomorrow is SNORKELING!! Stay tuned.
